On May 8-10 this year, Michal Jackowski attended the World Technology Law Conference 2024, organized by the ITechLaw Association in Washington, DC.
On May 10, he appeared as a panelist in the session “AI Standards and the Transformation of the Practice of Law.” Together with Sam De Silva and Namita Viswanath, they discussed the huge impact of artificial intelligence on all aspects of business and services, including the practice of law. They considered the extent to which AI is transforming law firms, what research says about this, what research says about this, the current implementations of GenAI-based tools in the market, and the prospects for further development of these technologies for lawyers.
They also touched on the legislative aspect, discussing the European perspective after the introduction of the Artificial Intelligence Act. They discussed how the new regulations will affect law firms and their clients, what legal and operational challenges may arise from the need to comply with the new requirements, and what benefits may result from the unification of AI regulations across the European Union. They paid special attention to the topics of data protection, legal liability for AI activities and the role of lawyers in ensuring compliance with new regulations.
